Glendora, California is located within Los Angeles County and is 23 miles northeast of downtown Los Angeles. Many of the neighborhoods located in Glendora afford their residents scenic views of both the San Gabriel Valley and the downtown area of Los Angeles. Due to its proximity to the San Gabriel Mountains, Glendora is often known as the “pride of the foothills.” The city was founded in 1887 by George D. Whitcomb. He named the city “Glendora” by combining the name of his wife, Leadora Whitcomb, with the location of his home, which was located in a glen of the mountains. The city was incorporated in 1911.

Shopping and Dining

A myriad of restaurants from high scale eateries to charming little hole-in-the-wall spots can be found in Glendora. Some restaurants worth checking out include T. Phillip’s Alehouse and Grill, the Chelsea Restaurant, Lone Hill Café, Sake Roll Sushi Restaurant, The Eatery, Samara Restaurant, Mauricio’s Mexican Food, and Petrillo’s Pizza Restaurant, just to name a few.

Residents will be able to get everything they need in terms of shopping around Glendora as well, whether they prefer to shop at national retail stores or locally owned shops. Glendora Village is a business district downtown with 38 stores, 13 restaurants, 13 salons and 3 spas. Retailers include apparel shops such as Andrews Inc, men’s and women’s clothing and accessories, Da Avere, purveyor of shoes, handbags, sunglasses, and jewelry, and Fiorina women’s apparel.

Additional shopping options in Glendora include La Petite Fleur, Old Navy, Barnes and Noble, HomeGoods, and Sport Chalet. Residents can venture into Los Angeles or any of the neighboring communities for an even greater variety of restaurant and shopping options.

Parks and Recreation

Glendora real estate owners will find plenty of parks and recreation options around town to enjoy. Some of the largest parks include South Hills Wilderness Park, George Manooshian Goddard Park, Big Dalton Canyon Campground, and Glendora Wilderness Park, which is also connected to Carlyle E. Linder Equistrian Park. Many of these parks boast picnic areas, camping sites, hiking trails, athletics fields, and more. Athletic residents will also want to check out Louie Pompei Memorial Sports Park and Glen Oaks Golf Course.

The American Legion Building, which hosts a number of recreational activities for both children and adults that include sports leagues, dance classes, yoga classes, martial arts classes, music lessons, aquatics lessons, and more. Residents looking to venture a bit further from Glendora will enjoy the San Gabriel Mountains for stunning views on a nature hike.


According to the 2010 census, the population of Glendora is 50,073. The income per capita of Glendora is $32,951, which is higher than both California’s $30,367 income per capita and the national income per capita of $25,804. The average household income is $75,954, which is 17.8 percent higher than California’s average household income of $64,457 and 45.1 percent higher than the national average household income of $52,328. As of August 2013, the unemployment rate in Glendora was only 5.3 percent, well below the state’s 8.9 percent unemployment rate and the 7.3 percent national unemployment rate. The city’s 5.9 percent poverty level is also quite low compared to the 13.5 percent state poverty rate and the 12.3 percent national poverty rate.

Schools, Health and Transportation

Glendora real estate is located within the Glendora Unified School District, which is considered one of the best educational systems in both the state and the country and has consistently ranked in all of the top performing brackets. Children living on Glendora real estate have the option of attending any school within the district. There are 6 elementary schools in Glendora, including La Fetra, Cullen, Stanton, Sellers, Sutherland, and Washington. There are two middle schools, Sandburg and Goddard, and one high school, Glendora High School. There are also a variety of private schools ranging from preschool through high school, including Live Oak Canyon School, St. Lucy’s Priory High School and Hope Lutheran Elementary School.

There are two main hospitals that serve residents of Glendora. They include the Foothill Presbyterian Hospital and the East Valley Hospital Medical Center. Both hospitals provide medical emergency care.

The Metrolink rail service connects communities from LA Union Station to San Bernadino. The nearest stop to Glendora is MetroLink Covina Station. Residents can use the city’s Metrolink Shuttle Service to commute from Glendora to the Covina Station.

Air service is available through several domestic and international airports located in the area including John Wayne Airport, LA/Ontario International Airport, Long Beach Airport, Los Angeles International Airport, and Burbank Bob Hope Airport.
